Randy White established himself as a formidable defensive tackle in the annals of NFL history. Known as The Manster, his moniker aptly captured his size, portraying him as a hybrid of part man and part monster. Throughout his amazing career, spanning 14 seasons, White remained loyal to the Dallas Cowboys until his retirement in 1988.

The Cowboys drafted White as the second overall pick in the 1975 NFL draft. His arrival in Dallas saw him face many challenges, mostly because head coach Tom Landry wanted to utilize him in a different position as a linebacker. However, by 1977, White was excelling and dominating on defense. During that season, he received his first All-Pro selection and was chosen for his first Pro Bowl. Most notably, he helped establish the Doomsday Defense, and was awarded co-MVP honors in Super Bowl XII as the Cowboys triumphed over the Denver Broncos with a score of 27-10. He became one of only seven defensive players to ever receive the accolade.

White’s performance in the next season was exceptional, as he recorded 16 sacks, which is currently the third-highest in Cowboys history for a defensive tackle in a single-season. His dominant performance earned him the title of NFC Defensive Player of the Year, as the Cowboys made their way back to the Super Bowl.

During his 14-year career, White participated in six NFC Championship Games and three Super Bowls, missing only one game. He still ranks seventh in career sacks (52) for the Cowboys. In 1994, the Cowboys honored White by inducting him into the Ring of Honor, and he was later inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Throughout his career, he was nominated to nine Pro Bowls, received eight All-Pro honors, and was named to the 1980’s All-Decade team and the NFL’s 100th Anniversary All-Time team.
