Micah Parsons details morning meetings he, Trevon Diggs have with Cowboys defensive staffers

The Dallas Cowboys have not even been in Oxnard for a week, but sometimes training camp can feel a lot longer than it actually is. Going through the same thing (relatively speaking) each and every day can make time stand still. This is a group with a lot of experience, and more specifically a lot of heartache, to power through and avenge, so this can add to the groundhog day sort of feel. Whatever the case you have to find a routine that works for you.

Saturday was a big day across the NFL as the league advertised “Back Together Saturday”, something they have been doing for a few years now. Everybody is in action across the league and NFL Network bounces around to different camps to check in on different situations. Player interviews are a part of this process.

Micah Parsons sat down with NFL Network and among other things discussed morning meetings he is a part of, and that he roped Trevon Diggs in to join him in sit downs with Mike Zimmer and Paul Guenther.

“We’re meeting every morning. No choice, special teams. We’re meeting for about 45 minutes every morning. Me, him, Paul and… I was like Trevon you might be out, but you’ve still gotta learn the same way I am. So me and Trevon is in the meetings every morning learning, going over the system, adding things, what am I comfortable with, teaching me the game. Not only just… they want to get me to the point where I can teach the defense to the other guys and so far those morning sessions have been taking me above and beyond.”

There is zero question that the future of the Cowboys defense belongs to Parsons and Diggs so them going through these things together is important.

It is interesting to note that Parsons specifically said that the team wants him to be able to teach other players on the defense. We have yet to see Parsons wear the green dot throughout his career and this isn’t necessarily that, but again, he is the main investment (soon enough that will literally be true in all likelihood) on that side of the ball.

Kudos to Parsons for involving Diggs as well, even when he is on the PUP list for the moment. It appears those days for Diggs are close to coming to an end.

Before Parsons sat down with NFL Network’s Jane Slater and Daniel Jeremiah, they were joined by Dak Prescott. The quarterback was asked about his comments from the other day about being willing to potentially play elsewhere in his career if things ultimately go that direction.

“I don’t want to play anywhere else. I love being a Dallas Cowboy. Love these fans. When you look up, as I’ve said I’ve watched all of the quarterbacks that I’ve grown up watching and they’ve played for other teams. Sure I don’t want to do that, but if that comes, that’ll just be the reality that I have to face. I’m always welcome to whatever’s new, whatever challenge, and hopefully it’s the challenge to continue to win a Super Bowl here.”

It has been said many times, but this is going to remain a talking point around the team until a resolution is reached one way or the other. On Friday, Green Bay’s Jordan Love and Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa got paid. These things undeniably impact the Prescott situation and he is clearly aware of that.

Dak was asked about the Love and Tagovailoa deals, how Kirk Cousins has navigated this overall path given the similarities he has relative to Kirk and whether money, respect or anything else motivate him.

“It’s definitely not the money. I guess you can say a little bit of it is the respect. And at the same sense what motivates me is just coming out here each and every day getting better. And being able to control that, I’m at peace with. And that’s where the freedom comes from is this is what I love more than anything. Being out here on this grass with my teammates, sharing the game, getting better at the game. That when you focus on that, the money comes. And as you said these other guys [Tua Tagovailoa, Jordan Love], they’re the ones setting the bar in that and as I said it’s an obligation that I have to my team, my family and to the rest of the quarterbacks in the NFL.”

Before any of this happened on Saturday, there was word that the Cowboys have sent recent offers to both Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

Three practices in the books. Eyes forward.
