At important piece of the Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl puzzle in the 1990’s was a player that wore 27 for the team. That player was Thomas Everett.

Thomas Gregory Everett was born November 21, 1964 and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fourth round of the 1987 NFL Draft. Despite being significantly undersized, he was recognized as a fierce tackler and a formidable hitter, ultimately serving as the starting free safety for the team. His tenure in Pittsburgh was commendable; however, in 1992, he lost the support of the front office due to a dispute regarding his contract. Consequently, he was traded to Dallas in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick, where he quickly assumed the role of starting strong safety.

In his inaugural season with the Dallas Cowboys, he recorded two interceptions, which ranked as the second highest on the team, along with 58 tackles. During Super Bowl XXVII, he distinguished himself by leading the team with two interceptions amidst a defensive onslaught. The Cowboys secured victory, thereby claiming their third Lombardi Trophy and their first since their last Super Bowl triumph in the 1970s.

In 1993, he enjoyed a Pro Bowl season and emerged as a crucial defensive asset that contributed to the Cowboys’ consecutive Super Bowl victories. By the end of the season, he ranked second on the team with two interceptions, recorded 97 tackles (the third-highest total on the team), had 10 pass breakups and 10 tackles on special teams. Additionally, he led the team with five tackles during Super Bowl XXVIII. Overall, it was an exceptionally fruitful season for Everett.

After the 1993 season he was traded to Tampa Bay in exchange for a fourth-round draft selection. Everett concluded his career as a two-time Super Bowl champion, amassing a total of 21 interceptions, four forced fumbles, and 589 tackles throughout his tenure. He ultimately retired in 1996 following his release from Tampa.
