Cowboys’ good, bad, and ugly against the Chargers in the preseason finale

The Dallas Cowboys unfortunately finish the preseason on somewhat of a sour note losing to the Los Angeles Chargers in the finale. For the majority the game things were going the Cowboys way, but sadly mistakes were made that let the Chargers stick around and ultimately walk away with the 26-19 victory.

Like with almost any preseason game, there was a mixed bag of results from the Cowboys. Some good things took place Saturday against the Chargers, however, there was also a lot of bad and ugly mixed in as well. Today, we are going to share one thing from each category from Dallas’ preseason finale.

THE GOOD – 53-man roster answers

The loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in the preseason finale means we’re finally about to receive the answers to some of the questions we’ve been asking throughout the entire offseason. What will this year’s team look like and who ends up fitting where on the final 53-man roster? There’s a lot of players who who did their best throughout the offseason to make the cut, which will make trying to finalize things all the more difficult. We may see some of our favorites playing elsewhere this year, but that’s the nature of the business.

THE BAD – DaRon Bland’s injury

Not long before the Dallas Cowboys third and final preseason game news broke DaRon Bland will miss six to eight weeks due to a stress fracture in his foot that required surgery. This is a significant blow to the Cowboys secondary, but one they are well familiar with. Trevon Diggs last year and Jourdan Lewis the season prior to that both sustained injuries of the season-ending type, so Bland’s timetable to return at least isn’t season long. But, who replaces him? Does Dallas look internally or look outside the organization for help?

THE UGLY – Trey Lance

Trey Lance accounted for 323 passing yards and a touchdown through the air and also added another 90 yards rushing and a TD on the ground. Those are fantastic numbers on their own and one’s that would suggest he had an outstanding performance against the Chargers in the preseason finale. Unfortunately, he was also responsible for throwing five interceptions. Those five INT’s blunted what he was able to do with his arm and legs and sadly resulted in an ugly performance that still leaves questions about his future in Dallas.
