NFC East news: Washington thinks they have weapons for Jayden Daniels to succeed

Washington Commanders GM Adam Peters Praises Jayden Daniels’ Weapons – Kade Kimble, Bleacher Report

Washington’s GM has plenty of faith in his rookie quarterback’s supporting cast.

The Washington Commanders are staring at a large opportunity. With the NFL regular season coming, the team will get its first look with No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels under center.

The LSU product and Heisman-winning quarterback has the ability to transform Washington’s offense with his dual-threat abilities. Now, it’s up to the Commanders to surround the potential franchise quarterback with adequate talent to realize his potential.

Washington general manager Adam Peters is a fan of the current core of weapons surrounding the quarterback — especially after the addition of wide receiver Noah Brown.

“Yeah, we really like those guys, and that’s why we felt we were comfortable with making the moves we made. And the guys that we have now are getting better and better each week,” Peters said.

The team didn’t just add Brown alongside Terry McLaurin, Luke McCaffrey and others in the wide receiver room, but the other positions add plenty of weapons for Daniels. With a running back duo of Brian Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler, combined with a tight end room of multiple contributors, Daniels will be able to spread the ball around next season.

“Not just the receiver room, but then you have two, really three running backs that can catch the ball out of the backfield. And one who’s a specialist at it, and [RB] Brian Robinson I think is underrated at that. And then [RB] Jeremy McNichols is a jack of all trades,” Peters continued. “And then you got the tight end room where we got four really good tight ends on the roster, and another, a fifth one on the practice squad that can all catch the ball. That group of eligible receivers we think is really good and have gelled really well with Jayden.”

First-year Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury will have the ability to get creative in the offense, and the group certainly won’t be one-dimensional. With plenty of playmakers, Daniels will have the potential to shine in year one in the NFL.

Adoree’ Jackson, Giants could be about to reunite – Ed Valentine, BigBlueView.com

A reunion may be taking place in New York’s secondary.

Fans who have been calling for the New York Giants to re-sign veteran cornerback Adoree’ Jackson might be about to get their wish.

According to Jordan Schultz, the Giants “brought in CB Adoree’ Jackson for a physical today and negotiations are underway on a deal to bring him back. A deal is not done, but the two sides are very interested.”

A first-round pick by the Tennessee Titans in 2017, Jackson played for the Giants from 2021-23, starting 36 of the 27 regular-season games in which he played.

Jackson, who turns 29 in September, had a down year for the Giants in 2023. He had a passer rating against of 95.5, which isn’t bad but showed regression from the 69.0 and 83.9 passer ratings he compiled in 2021 and 2022, respectively. Jackson also had a career-worst missed tackle rate of 12.5% in 2022.

Jackson, an outside cornerback for most of his career, began 2022 playing nickel cornerback with Tre Hawkins on the outside. When the Hawkins experiment failed, Jackson moved back outside.

Valentine’s View

GM Joe Schoen said this week that “rosters are set” around the league and “there’s not a lt” of real talent still available. It looks, though, like he might have a significant move left up his sleeve.

It looks like I might be wrong about this one. Jackson’s play clearly declined last season, though he is still young enough to have some good seasons remaining.

The Giants, though, were unable to find an outside cornerback to replace him in the draft or free agency. Nick McCloud and Cor’Dale Flott have been competing for the job, and neither has excelled. The waiver wire also did not provide the answer the Giants might have been hoping to find.

Need seems to have trumped any misgivings the team may have had. So, Jackson could soon be back in a Giants uniform.

‘Just stay in my room’ — How Eagles are approaching Brazil trip – Reuben Frank, NBC Sports Philadelphia

An international game to open the season is anything but ordinary for Philadelphia.

A.J. Brown didn’t even have to speak. The look on his face said it all.

Was he looking forward to the trip to Brazil?

Cue sheepish, miserable A.J. face and a forced smile.

Then … “Ummm, no.”

The Eagles open the regular season a week from Friday night against the Packers at Arena Corinthians in São Paulo, Brazil.

Ten hours down.

Ten hours back.

Twenty hours of flying and a football game in a 60-hour span.

Brown was asked why he wasn’t looking forward to the trip.

“We had a meeting yesterday and there’s like a whole bunch of ‘don’t do’s,’” he said.

Such as?

“A lot,” he said. “Honestly, things that we would normally do here, even as simple as just walking down the street with your phone and stuff like that. Like, which is kind of crazy.

“We’re not down there to see the city, do all this other stuff. This is not a vacation. This is a football game.”

This will be the Eagles’ second regular-season international game. In October 2018, they beat the Jaguars 24-18 at Wembley Stadium in London.

They’ve played several preseason games overseas — the Saints in Mexico City in 1978, the Browns in London in 1989, the Bills in London in 1991 and the Saints in Tokyo in 1993.

This will be the first international game ever in Week 1 and the first NFL game ever in South America. It’s the Packers’ second international game in three years. They lost to the Giants in London — at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium — in October 2022.

“I’m just trying to go down there to win a football game and come back home,” Brown said. “After hearing all this stuff, you know, I’m probably going to just stay in my room.”
