Cowboys vs Saints: 3 bold predictions for Sunday’s matchup

The Dallas Cowboys (1-0) are back in action this Sunday as they host the New Orleans Saints (1-0). Both teams are coming into this matchup fresh off double-digit victories in Week 1, so this figures to be a very entertaining game.

Before the two teams square off, here are three bold predictions for the matchup.

1) CeeDee Lamb shakes off the Week 1 rust, recording 10 receptions and 150+ receiving yards

It’s hard to make much of what the Saints’ defense did in Week 1 against the Panthers. Yes, they held Carolina to just 10 points and 193 total yards, but the Panthers are such a talent-derived team and have one of the worst offenses in football. It’s difficult to tell if the performance was a product of New Orleans’ defense being that good or Carolina’s offense being that bad.

Regardless, the Saints will face a much bigger test this week on defense as they attempt to slow down Dallas’ high-powered offense. New Orleans’s best cornerback, four-time Pro-Bowler Marshon Lattimore, has missed practice all week with a hamstring injury and may be held out of this matchup. Even if he’s able to go, he likely won’t be close to 100%, and that’s great news for the Cowboys’ receiving corps, particularly All-Pro CeeDee Lamb.

Lamb had an okay Week 1 against the Browns, which could be expected with him missing all of camp. This week, Lamb will return to his All-Pro form and feast on this Saints’ secondary.

CeeDee records 10 receptions and surpasses the 150-yard receiving mark, looking like the best player on the field all afternoon.

2) Dallas’ pass rush continues to dominate, recording five sacks

In Week 1 the Saints offensive line did an outstanding job protecting Derek Carr. The veteran quarterback was sacked just one time, and New Orleans’ O-Line graded out as the best pass-protecting line in all of football.

This week, they face much more of a challenge as they’ll have to slow down a Dallas pass rush that recorded six sacks against the Browns. The Saints did draft Taliese Fuaga with their first-round pick which helped shore up the left tackle spot, but they still have some question marks across their offensive line. Fuaga is questionable coming into this game, so the Cowboys may once again face a team without one of their starting linemen.

Dallas’ pass rush will make things very difficult for the Saints offense. Micah Parsons and company get after Derek Carr, sacking him five times and neutralizing New Orleans’ offensive attack.

3) Cowboys record their second-straight double-digit victory

The Cowboys looked like one of the best teams in football last Sunday. They are going to do it again this week against a Saints team that will come crashing back to earth.

The Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb connection will cause New Orleans’ defense headaches all afternoon as Dallas’ offense puts up 30 points. The Cowboys’ defense will take advantage of New Orleans being forced into obvious passing situations, and their pass rush will seal the deal.

Dallas keeps rolling as they dominate New Orleans, improving to 2-0 with a 30-17 victory.
