Cowboys fans Week 4 rooting guide

With Thursday’s win over the New York Giants, Dallas improved to 2-2 and now sit right in the middle of the NFC standings. It’s clear that this year’s Cowboys will need some help to have any shot at winning the division or even making the playoffs, so let’s take a look around the rest of the conference’s Week 4 schedule and see where they might get some.

This week’s rooting guide features a few intriguing matchups between potential NFC division winners and wild card contenders. We’ll dig into those a bit, but first let’s see what’s happening with our division rivals. There’s no debating what we need from them this Sunday.

Buccaneers over Eagles
Cardinals over Commanders

While the wins will boost Arizona and Tampa Bay’s positions in the conference, it’s far more critical right now for Dallas to keep pace the two 2-1 teams in the NFC East. The Eagles are unsurprisingly potent this year, but Washington may be better than anticipated. The road win against Cincinnati showed a tough, resilient team whose rookie QB is only getting better as he goes. If Dan Quinn’s Commanders keep gelling as the season goes on, they may be a problem.

Seahawks over Lions

Seattle is 3-0 and looking like early favorites to take the NFC West, especially with the 49ers’ injury issues. The NFC North looks much more competitive, which could put Detroit in the wild card picture. If that’s how it shakes out, Dallas needs the Lions to stay within reach.

Falcons over Saints

With New Orleans at 2-1 and Atlanta at 1-2, a Falcons win is preferable here to drag the Saints down a peg. Even if they were even, after what happened in Week 2, New Orleans is one of the last teams Dallas wants to see in any potential playoff game.

Vikings over Packers

Who do you believe more in; Sam Darnold or Jordan Love? While what Minnesota’s done so far with Darnold is astonishing, Love will be back soon and should elevate Green Bay to contender status again. If the Cowboys have to deal with one of these teams down the road, the Vikings seem preferable.

Rams over Bears

Los Angeles seems like they need to hit the reset button, while Chicago has room to develop as the season goes along. This one is basically a tossup, but we’ll lean towards the team with more potential to get hot later on.

Patriots over 49ers
Bengals over Panthers

Only two AFC-NFC matchups this week and they have clear rooting interests. The 49ers are better than their 1-2 record but they could easily drop a few more games as they navigate injuries. With some new contenders emerging in the NFC, it’d be helpful if one of the old ones took a step back.
