Dallas Cowboys 2024 opponent preview: 2 Lions to keep an eye on

The battle between the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions in 2023 is well-documented by this point. The Cowboys pulled out a dramatic victory wrapped in controversy, and the game becoming a rallying cry for the Lions and their fans for the rest of the season.

Now with another big-time matchup on tap, there is little doubt that the Lions will be coming back to AT&T Stadium looking for revenge.

It seems that every week in the NFL, you are set to face a premiere edge rusher. Such is the case once again for the Cowboys with Aidan Hutchinson coming into town. There is a familiarity there as Terence Steele and Co. faced Hutchinson just last season, but he is a dynamic pass rusher who has tremendous speed and can beat you with power as well.

Cowboys have been tasked with facing several big-time pass rushers this season already and have done a good job of providing their tackles help on money downs. That same type of plan is needed once again this week, or Hutchinson will have no problem feasting and throwing Dallas’ offense off rhythm.

The Lions’ offense has so much speed and talent that it’s tough to lock in and worry about just one player. The group as a whole provides such a unique challenge, and the Lions’ offensive coordinator, Ben Johnson, knows exactly how to put them in a position to succeed.

With so much warranted attention being paid to Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs, Dallas’ defense cannot afford to forget about David Montgomery. Montgomery has a rare combination of size and speed and is capable of not only running you over with an ‘angry run,’ but if he sees daylight, he is able to run away from you too.

Dallas has been better about stopping the run over the last few weeks, but this may be another of those truly unique challenges with two more than-capable backs that can beat you in a multitude of ways. Forgetting about Montgomery is not an option if the Cowboys want to walk out of Week 6 victorious.
