Cowboys 2024 rookie report: The rookies have another tough day

It was a bad day for the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. The entire team looks to be struggling and the result of a roster that’s underperforming was seen against the Atlanta Falcons. How did the rookie class play last Sunday? Let’s dive in and take a look.

OT Tyler Guyton

Guyton looked to be on the up after a fairly good game against San Francisco. This week he regressed again, but we’re talking one piece of an offensive line that truly struggled against the Falcons. He missed time after the second half as he dealt with a neck strain. When he returned he rejoined the Cowboys offensive line unit that seemed to have no answer to a Falcons defensive line that was ranked last in the NFL in sacks and pressure rate. Dak Prescott was sacked twice in the first quarter and was having to deal with huge pressure throughout the game, even the touchdown to Rico Dowdle had Falcons defensive linemen swooping all around Dak. This was a hugely underwhelming performance from the Cowboys offensive line, Guyton included.

C Cooper Beebe

Back to the offensive line and Beebe is in the same boat as Guyton here. He had his struggles with the rest of the line as they tried to hold back the tide. With both Zack Martin and Terence Steele to his right, the run game has nowhere to go. Martin and Steele are really struggling this season and last week’s performance from them both had a detrimental effect on Beebe. The rookie center allowed the most pressures against the Falcons, but Beebe was expecting to see extra pass rushing come his way from the Falcons system. This was just a bad day from the offensive line across the board.

LB Marist Liufau

The young linebacker played only five snaps on defense and record zero tackles. He did manage to force one quarterback hurry.

CB Caelen Carson

Carson had a large snap count this week, playing a total of 54 defensive snaps. Kirk Cousins went his way early and often in the game and found huge success. This was Carson’s first game playing since Week 3 and things went roughly for the Wake Forest defensive back. He allowed all eight targets to go for receptions and allowed a passer rating of 117.2. He did make seven tackles, which was second-most on the team last week, but he also led team in missed tackles with three.

WR Ryan Flournoy

Flournoy played 18 snaps and made one reception off one target that went for 13 yards. He also had 12 snaps on special teams.

TE Brevyn Spann-Ford

Spann-Ford played 15 snaps on offense and five of those snaps came as an extra blocker. He had zero receptions and was targeted zero times.
