Even in defeat, Micah Parsons affirms himself as one of the best defenders in the league in return

The Dallas Cowboys suffered their sixth loss of the season on Sunday, losing to the Philadelphia Eagles 34 to 6. Without QB Dak Prescott, the offense was unable to get any momentum going throughout the game. Replacement QB Cooper Rush had one of the worst games of his career, throwing for an abysmal 49 passing yards.

Despite the defeat, one thing remains true: Micah Parsons is really good at football. He had an incredible performance against the Eagles. He registered two sacks and forced a fumble on Jalen Hurts in the second quarter which led to a Brandon Aubrey field goal.

Parsons had been inactive since the team’s week four game against the New York Giants in September after suffering a high-ankle sprain. While Parsons’ stats this year reflect him missing several games, he had gotten off to a relatively slow start to the season in the first four weeks before missed time. His only sack heading into Sunday’s game against Philadelphia came against the Cleveland Browns in week one.

Parsons, along with DeMarvion Overshown, kept the Cowboys in this game much longer than they should have been. The season certainly seems bleak with the Cowboys having a 3-6 record after their first nine games. With that said, Parsons has the opportunity to play for a record-setting contract potentially coming in the offseason.

When asked about potentially trading Micah Parsons earlier this week, Jerry Jones quickly shut down the talk, reaffirming that Parsons will not be dealt.

“He’s integral to our future, so no is the big answer … We haven’t had one conversation ever about not having Micah Parsons on the team. Ever.”

It would be foolish to trade Parsons, he has proven over the last several seasons that he is among the best defensive players in the NFL. In just one game back, the pass rush looked considerably better against the Eagles. The Cowboys should do everything they can to get ahead of a contract extension with Parsons, and not drag it out throughout the offseason the way they did with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb this past summer.
