Cowboys announce dates for 2024 training camp

The Dallas Cowboys are already on the practice field, holding a mandatory mini-camp this week. But business will be picking up soon with their 2024 training camp, and the team just announced key dates for their activities in Oxnard, CA.

We already knew that the Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams have booked a joint practice for August 8th, just a few days before their preseason opener on August 11th. As usual, Dallas’ training camp will have a strong West Coast flavor as they visit the Rams and Las Vegas Raiders to start the preseason. They’ll have already been in California for about two weeks once they practice with the Rams.

The biggest question to answer between now and camp is whether or not WR CeeDee Lamb will be there. He’s now holding out for a new contract, not reporting to Dallas’ first mandatory mini-camp that started on Tuesday. This could easily be resolved within the next seven weeks before training camp, but until then we should expect Lamb to be absent in Oxnard as well.

Many of us are also anxiously awaiting more reporting on QB Trey Lance, who will be in his first Cowboys training camp after joining the team at the end of the 2023 preseason. Whether it’s just the battle with Cooper Rush for backup duties or perhaps preparing to replace Dak Prescott next year, Lance’s progress remains a much-discussed mystery that keeps us wanting new information.

Throw in the potential returns of CB Trevon Diggs and LB DeMarvion Overshown, the usual excitement about rookie additions, and the hoped-for growth from young prospects like WR Jalen Tolbert, DT Mazi Smith, DE Sam Williams, and others, there’s no question that training camp is the next marquee moment on the diehard fan’s calendar. Come July 23rd, we’ll begin sifting through the questions and watching the Cowboys put together their squad for the 2024 campaign.
