We are at day 18 of our 99 day countdown until the regular season. Here is your daily fact associated with number 18.

Jason Witten was a steady presence during his time in Dallas. He made a number of iconic plays during his time in Dallas. One such play went for a 18-yard touchdown.

With Dallas on the road against the winless 49ers in Week 7 during the 2017 season, Witten streaked up the seam before fading into the endzone with Jasquiski Tartt hanging off him. It was an insane one-handed snag that Witten made the for the 18-yard touchdown from Dak Prescott. That would help propel the Cowboys to a 40-10 win.

But his most iconic play is so outstanding you can find a huge picture of the moment hanging high on the wall in one of the main corridors at The Star in Frisco. A concussion, broken jaw, even a lacerated spleen wasn’t enough to keep Jason Witten off the field. Witten missed only one game in his 13-year career with Dallas. But running without a helmet, that showed his level of fearlessness and toughness.

Facing the Philadelphia Eagles in 2007, Witten was on the receiving end of a Tony Romo pass when the Dallas Cowboys tight end took a helmet-to-helmet hit. While the hit knocked Witten’s helmet from his head, it did not stop him. Witten ran down the field, with no helmet, and was tackled inside Philly’s 10-yard line for a 53-yard gain. The reception set up another touchdown as the Cowboys cruised past the Eagles, 38-17, to improve to 7-1 in a season that eventually ended with a 13-3 record.

That play will not only live forever, but it likely won’t have any company as the NFL changed the rule, blowing all plays dead once the ball-carrier’s helmet comes off.
