Terence Newman was born September 4, 1978 and was selected by the Dallas Cowboys with the fifth-overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft. He played an impressively long career of 15 years, and what’s even more impressive is Newman was 40 years old when he retired while playing a full career at cornerback.

Newman’s first year with Dallas was remarkable, as he concluded the season with 76 tackles, four tackles for loss, 20 pass breakups, and four interceptions. His 20 pass breakups set a career record for a single season. He received two Pro Bowl nominations in 2007 and 2009 and accumulated a total of 32 interceptions while playing for Dallas, which still ranks as the sixth-highest in the franchise. Newman’s 122 pass breakups are almost twice as many as Orlando Scandrick’s, who holds the second-highest record in franchise history.

Following several productive seasons in Dallas, Newman experienced a couple of injury-plagued seasons which led to his release from the team due to salary cap constraints. Subsequently, he went on to play for three seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals and another three years with the Minnesota Vikings, ultimately concluding his career under the guidance of Mike Zimmer, who had coached him in both Dallas and Cincinnati. Newman holds the distinction of being one of just two cornerbacks to achieve two interceptions in a single game after turning 37, with the other being Deion Sanders.
