Jerral Wayne Jones Sr. attended Arkansas in 1965, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, and also received a Master of Arts degree. At Arkansas, Jerry was involved in football and played with none other than Jimmy Johnson.
Jones has achieved remarkable success as the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, making them one of the most successful sports teams in the world. After more than 30 years of hard work, he was honored with induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as part of the 2017 class, becoming only the 15th owner to receive this prestigious distinction. His recognition into Canton was not only because of his leadership to win three Super Bowl victories, but also his impact on sports marketing and promotion which has significantly influenced the NFL and American sports in ways that are hard to fully capture.
Forbes magazine releases an annual report on the financial success of NFL teams, with their latest update ranking the Cowboys as the most valuable sports franchise globally, valued at over $9 billion. Additionally, the Cowboys led the NFL in average homefield attendance last season with 93,594 fans per game, a streak they have maintained for the past fifteen seasons. This only further entrenches the work done by Jerry Jones.
In the 1992, 1993, and 1995 seasons, Jones achieved a historic milestone by helping the team win three Super Bowls, making him the first NFL owner to accomplish this within his initial seven years of ownership. Furthermore, in 1995, Dallas became the inaugural team to secure three Super Bowl victories in four seasons, and also joined the San Francisco 49ers for the most Super Bowl wins (at the time) by a single organization with five.
Besides the Cowboys’ success on the field, Jones’ approach and effective guidance played a crucial role in molding the idea, structure, and progress of AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The stadium is famous internationally for being one of the most remarkable facilities worldwide, with a collection or art and history adorned inside, and it is currently recognized as the biggest NFL stadium. On September 20th, 2009, the stadium established a new attendance record for an NFL regular season game with an impressive 105,121 spectators.
Not finished there, in 2016 Jerry Jones presided over the completion of The Star in Frisco. Covering 91 acres, this diverse development is not just the location of the team’s headquarters, which is easily the most elaborate practice facility in the NFL, but also provides a vibrant array of shopping, dining and entertainment.
Jones and Eugenia Chambers (also known as Gene Jones) exchanged vows in 1963 after a fortuitous blind date during their college days. They are proud parents of three children. Stephen holds the positions of chief operating officer, executive vice president, and director of player personnel. Charlotte serves as the executive vice president and chief brand officer for the Cowboys, and the key instigator for the work the team does with the Salvation Army. Jerry Jones Jr. holds the title of chief sales and marketing officer.
