Cowboys rookie WR Ryan Flournoy “a name to remember” according to NFL analyst
The Dallas Cowboys will be leaning on more youth in 2024, that’s clear. From their lack of aggression in free agency to their already well-documented ‘draft first’ approach, their youth philosophy will be tested this season.
While many veterans and inexperienced players who are now seeing their roles increase will be expected to step up in a big way, there is an unsuspecting Day 3 rookie that is garnering some offseason buzz right now.
NFL analyst is bullish on Ryan Flournoy in Year 1
To catch the eye of the national media before you even put on the pads for a single preseason game, you must have some intriguing talent to look forward to. Such looks to be the case for Cowboys sixth-round pick WR Ryan Flournoy as NFL.com’s Adam Rank mentioned the rookie out of Southeast Missouri State as someone fans should look out for this season.
“Ryan Flournoy is going to be a name to remember this season,” Rank started.
“The sixth-round pick out of Southeast Missouri State is pretty raw, but he’s also highly athletic and looked good at the Senior Bowl. Dallas needs some receiver help to go along with CeeDee Lamb and Brandin Cooks. (Let’s be honest: It’s not like the Cowboys are going to run the ball a lot.) I think Flournoy is going to send people scrambling to the waiver wire to scoop him up when he becomes the third receiver in Dallas.”
It’s big words for a young rookie WR, but the feeling is there is real excitement for Flournoy’s future, much more than just any other Day 3 selection.
While the Cowboys’ WR3 job is wide open right now, for Flournoy to win the job as a Day 3 pick in his first season feels like a tall task. However, Rank believes it can happen, and even with Jalen Tolbert, KaVontae Turpin, and Jalen Brooks seemingly in front of him, Flournoy seems to be the one who is getting the national media buzz for what he can bring to the Cowboys’ offense.
In Flournoy’s final season of college, he finished the year with 57 receptions, 839 receiving yards, and six touchdowns. The young WR was productive in college and has the athletic traits that people both locally, and nationally, are excited about. Now the next step is to see if he can make it translate to the NFL game, while it looks like at least one national analyst believes he can.
