Cowboys training camp: Chauncey Golston flashes in Dallas’ second joint practice

The Dallas Cowboys were back in action on Wednesday afternoon. After a light walkthrough on Tuesday, Dallas hit the ground running, hosting the Los Angeles Rams for their second joint training camp practice.

The two teams have seen each other twice in practice and once in a game, so there is plenty of familiarity between the two sides. The competition has clearly been beneficial for both squads, and the two joint practices have produced some great competition.

In today’s practice, a few members of Dallas’ defense stood out. Multiple players put together performances of note, but today’s Star of the Day award goes to 26-year-old Chauncey Golston.

The former third-round pick needed to impress this training camp to earn himself a spot in the defensive line rotation. To this point, Golston has done so, and today may have been his best practice yet.

Cowboys’ defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer said yesterday that Golston will start seeing more snaps on the outside. That decision already seems to be paying dividends, as Golston looked great getting after the quarterback from the edge this afternoon.

With Sam Williams out for the season, the Cowboys will need other players along their defensive line to step up their pass-rush game. If today’s practice was any sign of things to come, Chauncey Golston will be getting plenty of chances to be that guy moving forward.
