Cowboys training camp: DeMarvion Overshown flashes his immense potential

A little less than a week into training camp, the Dallas Cowboys held their first official padded practice of the summer. To this point, camp practices have been very slow-paced. When the pads come out, that all changes. Things tend to get much more competitive in these practices and this is when you can see players start to shine.

With that in mind, second-year linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, who was ready to go from the jump (see below), came out and flashed his potential in today’s practice.

Overshown, who’s missed all of his rookie year with a torn ACL, made a couple of nice plays during the team portion of practice, showing his explosiveness and ability to get in the backfield with ease. His rehab seems to have gone very well.

Tyler Guyton had a fantastic day and was the most-talked about player from the practice, and we covered his battles with Micah Parsons here. But since Overshown is coming back from his ACL injury, and this was his first day back in pads for real, it felt like his speed and suddenness deserved a shoutout. So the 23-year-old linebacker’s performance earned him today’s star of the day.

If the Cowboys want to exceed expectations this season they’ll need their linebackers to step up in a big way. If DeMarvion Overshown is healthy, his return will provide a big boost to Dallas’ linebacking corps.

The young linebacker has tons of potential and could be the X-Factor to take the Cowboys’ defense to the next level.
