Cowboys training camp: No one’s stock rose higher than Jalen Tolbert

From heading into training camp looking to prove his worth, to standing on the sideline during preseason games laughing with his teammates—no one did more for themselves than Dallas Cowboys’ wide receiver Jalen Tolbert.

With the weight of opportunity and expectations coming down on him, Tolbert made it clear that he planned to seize his spot from Day 1 in Oxnard, Calif. Now as we head into Week 1, we reflect on the work he has done to leave no doubt about who WR3 is.

Cowboys’ Jalen Tolbert set for a big season

Heading into training camp it’s arguable to state that no one had more pressure on them than Tolbert. With the rumblings of being labeled a bust looming large and the WR3 spot vacated, many had hoped, but were skeptical, that he could seize the opportunity.

An offseason filled with motivation and a renewed sense of focus, Tolbert locked in with veteran Brandin Cooks as a mentor, and linked up with Dak Prescott to strengthen their connection. Tolbert, more than any one knew what was at stake this year, and came into camp determined to prove doubters wrong.

While we’re still two weeks away from Week 1 and the real chance to prove his hard work, it’s tough to ignore the growing buzz centered around the young wide receiver from South Alabama. A chance to resurrect a career, change the course of his professional life, and become the player he always imagined he could be is on the line.

From highlight reel catches against the likes of DaRon Bland, or being target dozens of times during the course of practice, forged by hours of trust-building with Prescott, Tolbert has a chance to help this Cowboys passing attack be even better than it was last season.

It’s a lot of pressure for a WR3 with little production to this point, but so was the lead up to this training camp where he had his back against the wall and guaranteed nothing by way of a roster spot. However, if how he responded to this first obstacle this season, there is no reason to believe Cowboys Nation shouldn’t be excited about his impact in 2024 and beyond.
