Cowboys vs Rams: Markquese Bell shines in Dallas’ first preseason action

Dallas Cowboys football is back! The Cowboys kicked off their first preseason game action this afternoon traveling to Los Angeles to take on the Rams. The teams squared off in a joint practice on Thursday, so the two squads were already somewhat familiar with each other coming into this matchup.

While most of Dallas’ best players did not see game action, there were plenty of notable performances. One in particular was by Cowboys’ safety Markquese Bell. The 25-year-old is back at his primary position this season and shined in his first game action. Bell’s stellar performance earned him the first preseason Star of the Game award.

Bell made an impact right out of the gate, intercepting Rams quarterback Stetson Bennett in the first quarter.

The 25-year-old was all over the field and looked much more comfortable at safety than he did at linebacker last season. The former undrafted free agent finished the day with a team-leading nine total tackles and was constantly around the football.

If Markquese Bell keeps playing the way he did today, he will have a good case to be the team’s starting strong safety when Dallas opens up the regular season.

BONUS STARS

Three young players fighting to make the team, Eric Scott Jr., Brock Mogensen, and Julius Wood also recorded impressive interceptions in today’s contest.
