Dallas Cowboys injuries: Chuma Edoga reportedly has broken toe, likely out 4-6 weeks

The Dallas Cowboys played their first preseason game of the year on Sunday afternoon against the Los Angeles Rams and escaped with almost everyone as healthy as they were when the contest began.

Unfortunately there was one casualty in tackle Chuma Edoga who left the game early and was reportedly wearing a walking boot after the game was over. Tests still had to be conducted and it appears the results are in. According to 105.3 The Fan’s Bobby Belt, Edoga has a broken toe and will miss around 4-6 weeks.

There are a number of things that this means for the Cowboys.

First and foremost any chance of rookie first-round pick Tyler Guyton not being the starting left tackle in Week 1 is likely gone. Edoga was the only real and viable option to start there if it wasn’t going to be Guyton, and given that we have less than a month until the opener the job is now effectively Guyton’s.

Additionally, the Cowboys are now in need of a proper swing tackle, at least until Edoga gets fully and totally healthy. This could have been argued as being true even before Edoga suffered the broken toe but is obviously exacerbated now. Could Matt Waletzko be the option? Asim Richards? Josh Ball, maybe? Time will tell and we will see what the Cowboys have to say about it all, but either way Edoga will probably start the season on injured reserve which means somebody will make the initial roster that otherwise wouldn’t have.
