NFC East news: Malik Nabers receives high praise from Giants teammate

Giants’ Darius Slayton: Malik Nabers is like Ja’Marr Chase ‘clone’ – Fox Sports

New York’s news WR is getting high praise from inside his own wide receiver room.

The New York Giants envision rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers having a tremendous impact on their offense from the jump.

Nabers’ new teammate, fellow receiver Darius Slayton, echoes that statement, while seeing a former LSU star in Nabers — who also attended LSU.

“He’s looked good. In my opinion, he reminds me of Ja’Marr Chase; he’s like a clone of him,” Slayton said about Nabers on the latest edition of “All Facts No Brakes.” “Dimensionally, they’re about the same. His body movements, it’s actually kind of weird watching him move around. He’s really talented. He’s got good hands.

“Our system, the biggest hiccup as a rookie is trying to get down all these terminologies that [Brian] Daboll has for us. But once he gets all that down, I think he’ll have no problem having success.”

The Giants selected Nabers with the No. 6 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of LSU.

Chase, of course, has been a Pro Bowler in each of his three seasons in the NFL, which came after a legendary 2019 National Championship campaign at LSU that saw him reel in 84 receptions for 1,780 yards (21.2 yards per reception) and 20 touchdowns.

LSU has built a reputation for producing elite wide receivers, including Chase, Justin Jefferson and former Giants star Odell Beckham Jr. Nabers was one of two LSU wide receivers to be selected in the first round of the 2024 draft, Brian Thomas Jr. (Jacksonville Jaguars at No. 23) being the other.

Nabers, an All-American, totaled 89 receptions for 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns (17.6 yards per reception) last season, which came one year after posting 1,017 receiving yards. He joins a Giants wide receiver room that includes Slayton, Wan’Dale Robinson, Jalin Hyatt and veteran Allen Robinson, among others.

Jason Wright moving out of role as Commanders president, will leave team by end of 2024 season – Nick Shook, NFL.com

The new regime in Washington is already getting a shakeup.

As the Commanders turn the page on a new era under owner Josh Harris, a key front office figure is preparing to depart.

Jason Wright has relinquished his role as Commanders team president and is assuming a new role of senior advisor, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported. Wright is expected to leave the organization entirely by the end of the 2024 season, per Rapoport.

“I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished over the past four years,” Wright said in a statement released Thursday, via The Athletic. “Together with an amazing team of professionals, we have taken this franchise through a period of immense challenge and uncertainty and have transformed it. We’ve set the table for an incredibly bright future under (owner) Josh’s (Harris) leadership. Over just the past year, we’ve welcomed record numbers of fans back into our building, made meaningful improvements to the fan experience, re-engaged with corporate partners, and reconnected with the community. Most importantly, we re-established a culture of respect in this organization.

“Given all those accomplishments, that’s why I am proud to announce that I will remain with the team throughout the 2024-2025 season, with the same responsibilities. In particular, I look forward to helping the organization complete its new stadium deal.

“This feels like the right moment for me to explore my next leadership opportunity. I’m extremely grateful to my Commanders colleagues, our fans, and this community for all that we have accomplished these past four years, and am looking forward to the start of a very successful season for the Burgundy and Gold.”

Will he take All-Pro back? Lane Johnson still very important Eagle – Dave Zangaro, NBC Sports Philadelphia

The Eagles’ tackle has been labeled one of the most important player on the roster.

In the locker room at Raymond James Stadium after the Eagles’ playoff loss to the Bucs, it already seemed likely that Jason Kelce had played in his final NFL game.

So then some attention turned to Lane Johnson.

“I’m excited about where this team’s going to be at next year,” Johnson said on Jan. 15. “And I plan on finishing my career strong. I think I have a few good years left and I’m going to take it to the limit.”

He’s not done yet.

Johnson, 34, is back for Year 12 in 2024 and the Eagles are hoping he’s right that he has a few more good years left in him. Because he’s been such a key to their success over the last decade-plus.

And even though he’s in his mid-30s now, Johnson hasn’t slowed down. In fact, after a nagging ankle injury threatened to end his career a few years ago, Johnson has been back on the top of his game the last couple of years and has made the last two Pro Bowls. He’s still one of the best tackles in the NFL and he still has a strong case to be called the best right tackle in the game.

“You know, every year is a different challenge,” Johnson said this spring. “As guys get older, they lose athleticism, they lose flexibility. I’m trying not to lose any of that. I’m trying to look like I did when I was 27. And it’s hard, but it’s something that I work on every day.”

After the 2023 season, here’s the Eagles’ record with and without Johnson dating back to the 2016 season:

With Johnson: 71-37-1

Without Johnson: 11-22

It’s worth pointing out that the Eagles won their only game without Johnson in 2023 — a 37-34 overtime win over the Bills — but Johnson is still massively important to the Eagles’ success.
