Poll: Who will be the new NFC playoff teams in 2024?
A couple of weeks ago we asked you which 2023 playoff teams you thought would NOT make it back to the playoffs in 2024, and the voting was pretty conclusive: The Buccaneers (45% of the votes) are seen as the team most likely to not make it back to the playoffs. The Cowboys came in second (27%) and the Rams third (12%).
Although the poll was about which teams would not repeat their playoff appearance, reversing the vote count gives us an early peek at how the NFC playoff seeding could play out, at least in the minds of our loyal BTB readers. Sorting by the least amount of votes received, the following playoff seeding appears:
#1 seed: Detroit (2%)
#2 seed: San Francisco (2%)
#3 seed: Philadelphia (5%)
#4 seed: Unidentified team from the NFC South
The wildcards would go to the Packers (6%), Rams (12%), and Cowboys (27%).
But we also know that about three new teams make the playoffs in each conference every year, and that brings us to our question of the day: Which new teams do you expect to make the playoffs for the NFC this season?
The following nine teams are candidates to make the playoffs in 2024 after failing to make the playoffs in 2023, ranked by their Super Bowl odds.
- +2,400: Atlanta (7-10 record in 2023)
- +4,000: Chicago (7-10)
- +6,500: Seattle (9-8)
- +8,000: Arizona (4-13)
- +8,000: Minnesota (7-10)
- +9,000: New Orleans (9-8)
- +12,000: Washington (4-13)
- +15,000: New York (6-11)
- +30,000: Carolina (2-15)
We’ll put all nine teams up for a vote below, even if the chances of some teams appear to be pretty slim. In previous years, 10 wins have usually meant a playoff berth, but with the expanded playoff field, nine wins may be enough (Green Bay and Tampa squeezed in with nine wins last year, and Tampa needed just eight wins in 2022). But for many of the teams above, improving to nine wins will be a tall order, let alone making it all the way to the Super Bowl.
