Report: Cowboys trading TE Peyton Hendershot to Kansas City Chiefs for late-round, conditional pick
Hold the phones on that Peyton Hendershot cut, people.
Despite being reported earlier in the day on Tuesday that the Dallas Cowboys were cutting tight end Peyton Hendershot, word broke about an hour before the deadline to get down to 53 players that Dallas is actually trading him to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Trade! The #Cowboys are finalizing a trade sending TE Peyton Hendershot to the #Chiefs for a late-round conditional pick, per source.

Hendershot was a UDFA signing by the Cowboys two years ago so to be able to turn him into a player that they can capitalize on, especially when they were set to cut him, is a great job by the front office.
The tight end position for the Cowboys is obviously set with Jake Ferguson at the top and with Luke Schoonmaker being in his second season as a second-round pick, Hendershot just ran out of room on this roster. He had been a solid player for the Cowboys outside of injuries, This bodes well for John Stephens Jr. and/or Brevyn Spann-Ford.
Update: 3:28pm ET
According to Todd Archer it is a conditional seventh-round pick in 2026.
The Cowboys have traded TE Peyton Hendershot to Kansas City for a conditional 2026 7th round pick, per source. Hendershot was odd-man out in TE battle. Cowboys gain a potential future pick.

As is often said, something is better than nothing.
Update: 3:37pm ET
The mothership’s Nick Harris has the conditions.
Conditions for Hendershot trade:
The Cowboys receive a 7th round pick in 2026 if…
– Hendershot is on the 53-man roster for five games this season
OR
– Hendershot is on the 46-man gameday roster for three games this season
They will not receive a pick if either are not met. https://t.co/kxdHfxNnVK
