Trevon Diggs seemingly scoffs at ESPN’s cornerback rankings
For about two weeks now, ESPN has been counting down the top 10 players at each position. On Thursday, it was time for the cornerbacks to be ranked, and All-Pro Trevon Diggs of the Dallas Cowboys did not make the list but instead got an honorable mention Also, DaRon Bland, who led the NFL in interceptions in 2023, was left off the list.
Here’s the explanation for why Diggs didn’t make the top 10 from a league executive.
Diggs has been steady for the Cowboys’ defense. In four seasons, he has racked up 18 interceptions and two forced fumbles. “He was hard to place because of the health issue [ACL tear in September] but he’s still one of the best ball hawks and he’s tried to play more disciplined in recent years,”
Diggs caught wind of the rankings, and the former second-round pick wasn’t on board, neither was All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons.
Diggs led the NFL in interceptions in 2021 with 11, and his 15 since that year are the best league-wide. Granted, there’s more to playing cornerback than getting interceptions, but when a player gets them at this magnitude, which gives his offense so many more opportunities to score, it can’t be denied.
Unfortunately for Diggs, his ACL tear last year affected his place on this list. Also, when other players have big seasons, they’re going to climb up the rankings. However, to even suggest that there are 10 cornerbacks better than Diggs, who has been the most opportunistic ball-hawk in the NFL over the last few years, is exactly what he tweeted, comical.
