Tyler Guyton receives high praise from All-Pro teammate

After the Dallas Cowboys lost long-time LT Tyron Smith to the New York Jets in free agency, it seemed inevitable that the team would select an offensive lineman in the first round. With that said, there were debates among the fanbase regarding who that offensive lineman should be. While there was talk about centers and tackles throughout the draft offseason, the team ultimately selected tackle Tyler Guyton out of Oklahoma with the 29th pick in the 2024 draft.

Guyton was an appealing prospect in the draft prospect due to his enormous stature, raw power, and mobility at the tackle position. However, some fans were skeptical of the pick as he mostly played right tackle in his collegiate career, and seemed like a very raw prospect.

Fast-forward to the first week of padded practice in training camp, and Guyton is already showing Cowboys fans why he may have been the right choice for the team. He impressed many on social media after holding his own in several reps against generational edge rusher Micah Parsons.

It may be worth noting that when Guyton was selected by the Cowboys on April 25, Micah Parsons was trending on social media for his less than enthusiastic reaction to the selection.

Guyton is likely taking any opportunity against Parsons to prove he was the right choice. Going up against a player as skilled as Parsons will be great for the development of the rookie as a starting left tackle in the NFL.

He is already receiving high-praise from a former first-round pick who happens to share the same name as him. All-Pro LG Tyler Smith spoke to the media, expressing how he has been extremely impressed with the rookie’s play so far in training camp.

“I’ve been truly impressed. It’s not very often that you find a human being who measures how he does, 6-7, 330 and has light feet and can just move and just bully dudes. When he really becomes confident and gets the playbook down and does all that stuff, the sky is truly is the limit for him and his development.”

Smith can relate to Guyton, as he was also viewed as a guy with great physical traits, but needed a lot of work with his technique. If the 2024 first-round pick can have a rookie season similar to Smith, the Cowboys will have a very formidable left side of the offensive line.
